Cross Country

Program Overview

Cross Country  running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on an open air course over natural terrain.  In high school the course, typically 5km or 3.1 miles long, may include surfaces of grass and earth, pass through woodlands and open country. and include hills, flat ground, and sometimes gravel road.  It is both an individual and a team sport, runners are judged on individual times and a points scoring method for teams.

At Druid Hills HS, there are no tryouts so anyone who has his/her physical form and paperwork can be part of the team.  Practices are held after school Monday thru Friday 3:45 to 5:45.  County meets are held on Tuesday at Druid Hills Middle School and Arabia Mountain High School where everyone participates.  In addition there are invitational meets, where in some cases, the number of runners participating may be limited.
